Boxers have become a very competitive breed and it is not unusual to see several professional handlers in the conformation ring showing boxers. A professional handler is someone who will take your dog into the conformation ring and show it for a fee. There is a very wide range of services provided by a professional handler, from simply picking the dog up from you at the show and going into the ring, to the dog ‘living’ with the handler for extended periods of time while the handler is traveling to various shows around the region/country. The services you require of your handler and your handlers experience will be the primary criteria in determining the fees the handler will charge. A professional handler should be knowledgeable in the care, training/conditioning, and proper presentation of the breeds that they handle. Before hiring a handler it is a good idea to watch them, and see how they work with the dogs in their charge, not only in the ring, but outside of it as well. You will want to talk to several handlers and compare rates and services, before deciding who is worthy of the challenge of showing your boxer. |
